ambivalent & michael l penman debut on ovum with *shimmer*. having found a very fruitful collaborative friendship, michael l penman and ambivalent (aka kevin mchugh) have begun exploring the intersection of their approaches to music-making. they originally connected when kevin discovered michaels music in 2010. after playing many of his productions in his dj sets and including them in a mix-cd (_ground) release for minus, kevin made contact and the pair began exchanging files and swapping ideas. this led to time in the studio together and yet more file exchanges. quickly a natural creative balance emerged as they found that their production techniques were complementary as is their shared love of groove, bass and musicality. for their ovum debut the duo have delivered a trio of tracks that have those three elements at their core. title track shimmer brings together raw jackin funk with a warm driving bassline and scything techy stabs whilst chevalier matches its fun bouncy groove with an infectious and spritely melody. final track memogram comes heavy with the oldskool, delivering a bed of beats and samples beneath the very heaviest of acid-kicks. not for the feint of heart!

been a long time since we ve heard anything out of miami like this! producer greg beato follows up his blazing ep for funkineven s apron records with another killer three tracker....serious shit, 100% tip!beato somehow just knows how to get it right combining all the crucial electronic elements, creating three absolutely monsterous tracks that will crush the dancefloor. sure it s been said before, but the music does the talking and this ep is a pure unharnessed example of such. guaranteed to be in every djs bag this summer. further proof it s game over for weak watered down dance music.

the release kicks off with title track find my way which features exciting young vocalist, ria morans heartfelt tones. cade opts for swinging 909 drums and a hooky bass-lick as the driving force, while morans voice sporadically eases in and out of the groove and understated chord stabs and tension building strings fuel the musicality, resulting in a classy, deep-house workout. up next is dr. fox, embracing a similar deep, contemporary house aesthetic, with saw-wave bass hits, cosseting pads and hooky vocal snippets acting as the fundamental elements of the cut, cade then plays on subtle variations in the groove throughout its near seven minute duration, to maintain an evolving dynamism and enticement. entering the latter half of the single we have ghostryder up first, cade opts for a more upfront approach this time, bringing busy drum programming to the forefront, alongside sweeping synth tones, a tom-driven bass line and dubbed out vocal licks.

miles sagnias british bastion of deepness, aer, returns with the life ep, which sees the label foray into fresh territory. tokyos tomi chair opens proceedings with a sharp piece of deep techno called sunstroke which is as uplifting as it is tough. si tappenden appears next under the newly established ourra alias, contributing the dawn acid driver marine morning which is an inspired piece of dancefloor poetry. finally rounding off the ep is miles sagnias ~elements~. after years of experience as one of the uks finest underground djs, sagnia is on point once again. a beautifully emotive track, that pulls on the heart strings and exhibits a serene gentility that works alongside the rhythm

following on from releases for pomelo and pal sl, ld nero makes a welcome return to trelik, the label that unveiled the project back in 2011. detroit house flavours lace >als ik kan<, as a bleepy synth loudly sounds on the off beat over short stabby chords and shuffling drums. a summery, rhode uplifting house track awaits in >the feel< while a loose > i m burning< almost sounds like ld nero has each of the tracks elements placed on a separate turntable - making sure to keep them beat matched and aligned.

with the track *time machine*, dj and producer michael nielebock provided us with a fantastic debut on our deep circus label. his first success came for the berlin resident with the track pure visionson the treibstoff label, which entered the charts and the record cases of many international djs. his productions all are characterized by a driving groove, mixed with spherical elements, strings and synth-sounds. with *time machine* he also managed to bring this mixture to perfection in cooperation with his studio buddy leevey, thus creating a track which will make the day and caress the ears of many outdoor dancers this summer.
the second track on the ep is a wonderful remix by burak sar aka sis, who recently released his second album *confidance* on his label cocolino. the sis remix stays close to the original track, but reduces the spherical sounds and puts a greater focus on the basses, resulting in a great piece with a lot of deepness. nice!

the second release from swedens tommy awards is another essential 4 track ep. side a continues from where the first ep left off, with two tracks of blissful balearic vibes. if you liked land of lights recent release then this should definitely appeal to you. side b reveals another side to tommy awards and shows the guys are no slouch when it comes to producing in the electronic realm, employing vintage synths and drum machines to create gale force, the ballad of the wind. for the final track, is it balearic head honchos coyote take on the difficult task of remixing last years classic, blind andy, and come out victorious, adding elements of acid and making the track altogether deeper. is it summer yet?

from the soul-stirring opening strains of ex friendlys sublime start to the people are looking at you imprint, it is clear that the emerging nottingham-based producer has a gift for music that travels further than mere surface physical response. in a scene littered with disposable vocal turns, the simple poetry of rich medinas narrative that runs through journeyman resonates perfectly with the yearning strings and low-slung, bass-rich groove that come to define this exquisite approach to deep house. jonno & tommo hone in on the more rhythmical elements with their own dub of journeyman as a clearer club-ready intent meets with the psychedelic potency of the aqueous sound effects and that ubiquitous string hook. whether reaching for a more meaningful dimension to add to a set, or to simply drift away on the cradling nature of the music and its message, it is clear from the outset that this is music built to last.

dark maneuvres is a track which lives up to its name, the original expressing pumping, dark and crunchy sounds interspersed with string arrangements and overdubs which move the track in various different directions. the 1996 original is a great example of some production techniques of the time and is of interest in identifying the direction of the techno sound in that era, as well as being eminently listenable. slam were very much involved in the progression of techno at the same time as envoy was creating tracks such as dark manoeuvres and as such they have a real handle on how things have evolved, enabling them to bring a classic release such as this bang up to date. the distinctive hook, attention-grabbing melody and strings which are distinctive elements of the original are all incorporated in a full and fresh dynamic which sees some of these elements regrouped in individual sections such as the strings or moulded with deeper, darker resonance into a new expression.

similarly, this compilation is all about that - bringing interesting elements together. i have invited producers that envoke that magic within me. they have all touched my soul. great music is just like happiness, its only real when shared.

two giants in dance music, totally enormous extinct dinosaurs (aka teed) & eats everything, join forces for a beast of a release on crosstown rebels. the exclusive track on the forthcoming get lost vi mixed by teed, lion, the lion is a ferocious dance-floor destroyer with a crackling, tough exterior pierced by rave fx and suspended by deeper elements creeping into the mix. remixes come courtesy of dutch producer and 4lux boss, gerd, who turns in a more swinging and suitably bass heavy sub-tech mix with added synth-line as well as a deep dub version.

echocord colour025 is produced by a good friend and a new artist on echocord colour, lasse buhl from copenhagen. after some years in the techno scene as one half of the group northern structures, who releases on adama x label sonic groove, lasse buhl releases his debut ep r38 on echocord colour, inspired by roughness and simplicity. the remix comes from no other than milton bradley from berlin. the r38 track ia a driving, stomping, dry killer techno track, while em.a ai is a more experimantal breaky track, with dubby elements. the remix is a pure 4/4 techno track, a typical milton bradley peaktime production.

on the original one, a decadent intro with swishing reverse cymbals, create like a perfect countdown for the incoming hypnotic melody. these two elements, along with a deep half-step beat, continue their propagation for the whole track, made with a certain dose of style and precision.
the real explosion comes with the acclaimed remix made by artikal (j:kenzo & mosaix) who have masterfully dubbed out the version increasing the kicks, making a real runaway hit, already played and supported by many djs as youngsta and amit on rinsefm.

gravetemple was formed in 2006 as a side-project of the band sunn o))) by oren ambarchi, stephen o malley and attila csihar. the group formed initially to tour in israel summer 06, creating several recordings which eventually became the holy down album, which was released on southern lord recordings in 2007. at the time of the israel tour, the lebanon war started and was in action. in summer 08 the trio reformed together with the addition of australian drummer matt skitz sanders for a short european tour culminating at a headlining performance at supersonic festival in birmingham. in late 2009 the original trio reconvened for a special one-off concert at londons institute of contemporary arts. april 2013 marks the first set of live action since that period, and a new chapter in the ongoing system of the related network.
ambient/ruin was created with the 2008 quartet, elements of tape collage, concrete, field recordings blend within a strong geographically diverse (parts were recorded in japan, australia, paris and israel) suite of heavy minimalist/maximalist music, black/death metal and drone. the culmination of these efforts become the music, literally, of sadistik exekution meeting phill niblock.

claus voigtmann makes his vinyl debut on lisbon’s assemble music, applying the same high standards to his productions as he does to the toi toi parties he co-organises in london. in fact, you can imagine ‘spin’ greeting you on arrival in a moodily-lit shoreditch basement, its growling interplay of bass and kick drum instantly familiar and pleasurable. the plunging bass and pinpoint kicks of ‘junago’ bring to mind the refined soundspaces of peter ford or ‘the au harem’-era villalobos. it’s the kind of track that comes into its own the later the night gets, and just as the elements interlock then writhe apart from each other you can imagine the dance floor doing the same.

droid recordings presents a new 12 inch from dj hyperactive, whose jacking chicago sound has evolved over the years into a deeper sound that maintains his signature infectious drive. on 25 hours, an undulating, bassy synth line builds into the machine-voiced partiers dream of 25 hours in a day, before the track takes off with neck-breaking snare and clap combos and proceeds to rebuild. raíz pulls the track from the depths to deliver something more brash and energetic. there is more at play here, with the 3-note riff tweaked throug the tracks duration, and the words 25 looped through a series of insistent, smashing snares. in the final mix, newcomer markus suckut follows his recent remixes of xhin and pfirter with an unexpected and idiosyncratic interpretation. tonal elements are drawn into the lower registers, while the vocal sample slithers around the mix. the syncopated elements of the original surface with in an alternative mode, dark and driving.

chris spero (otherwise known as uk house and techno producer glimpse) and hypercolour co-founder and producer, alex jones, return once again as dense & pika to the hotflush fold with move your body back. having crept out of the shadows back in 2011 with a collection of white labels released through their own eponymous imprint, dense & pika went on to bolster their rising profile with the release of their hotflush debut (crispy duck) which landed late last year as well as with their memorable live set at hotflushs recent boiler room takeover. there is nothing chin-strokingly complicated or needlessly over-worked about their productions. they make interesting techno aimed at the dance floor and move your body back continues with this central aesthetic. the three track ep plunders percussive depths by way of stern machine rhythms, swollen low-end grit and the echoing, anthemic elements of warehouse rave techno. the title track of the ep may already be familiar to many having appeared on their resident advisor podcast in march and is already being played out by maya jane coles, boddika and adam beyer, amongst others.

is it balearic return with an absolutely superb ep from new signings saint petersburg disco spin spdsc are a collective of live musicians and djs from russia this is their debut release for iib, but a handful of tracks on labels like glenview & teardrop have made serious waves - skillfully combining live disco musicianship with the dj sensibilities which shape their sound. from club friendly and hooky dancefloor tracks to blissfully executed downtempo jams. all pulled off with a loose but pin sharp production style that really makes them stand out i never leave you leads on the a side, a steadily assembled sunset workout, with brass elements defining the groove. marwencol manages to deftly pull off a balearic wu-tang move, whil love spin is a beautifully lolloping beach bar jam, which comes complete with a very dubbed-out dub version too.
